CA NOW PAC Praises Voters for Protecting Teen Safety, Opposing Governor’s Irresponsible Propositions

California National Organization for Women’s Political Action Committee  (CA NOW PAC) praised California voters today--especially parents--for defeating Proposition 73, ensuring teen safety in California, and for voting down all of Governor Schwarzenegger’s ballot initiatives.

CA NOW Executive Director, Helen Grieco, said:

“We are thrilled that all the ballot measures failed, and we believe it showed the voters just how out of touch Governor Schwarzenegger really is.  He spent hundreds of millions of dollars of our money, during a budget crisis.  The election not only cost the taxpayers money, it also cost unions and social policy organizations that had to focus their resources on fighting these initiatives.

The people have spoken in a resounding rejection of this Governor, and of the initiatives he supported.  The teachers, and unions, and nurses and parents and Californians committed to justice have shown him how we feel about his vision.  He should have never called this election, and I think he’ll be reminded of that again this time next year.

Along with our general commitment to getting more progressive, responsible women elected, and increasing representation of women in our government, the CA NOW vows to replace Schwarzenegger on Election Day 2006 with a leader who will address real problems, with real solutions.
